Join the AIA Baltimore Practice Management Committee in an exploration of one of Johns Hopkins University's newest buildings, the Student Center, where you’ll learn the story of the effort that the University underwent to design the building.
The Hopkins Student Center on Homewood’s campus is a brand new building that features heavy timber construction, an innovative design concept, many sustainable features and a program that will transform how the students and public interact on campus. The team includes Design firm BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group) and Architect of Record Shepley Bulfinch, and Clark Construction. Members of the team, along with JHU representatives from Facilities, will discuss how the University set out the challenge to design a world class Student Center, and the outcome of that challenge. The design team will discuss the use of heavy timber, the unique design features including universal design concepts and sustainable aspects within the building. The session will also address use of materials within the interior and the variety of spaces throughout the building.
